Jeremy Rockliff,

Minister for Community Services and Development

Men’s Health Week provides a platform for challenging and debating key issues in men’s health and to raise the profile of men’s health outcomes and health needs around the country each June.

Importantly, it is a time to celebrate and connect with one another, as part of a more holistic approach to health care, and I acknowledge our community organisations such as Tasmanian Men’s Sheds, for hosting events and gatherings across the state.

The more than 60 Men’s Sheds now registered across Tasmania play an incredibly important role in providing a safe outlet for men to meet, share information and stay connected to their community.

That is why, on top of our largest ever boost for mental health and wellbeing, we also have increased funding for the Tasmanian Men’s Sheds Association Grants Program, as part of our additional $4.3 million investment into the community sector.

Our increased funding in the Grants Program to $175,000 per year over the next three years will include extended eligibility criteria to include wellbeing initiatives to support the health of members so they can help and support each other.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government has begun delivering on its plan laid out during the election to ensure Tasmanians get the care they need, when and where they need it.

I encourage all Tasmanians to consider their friends and family members this Men’s Health Week and to help and connect with each other.
