A COVID-infected person spent more than a week at a central Brisbane backpacker’s lodge, prompting a new alert from Queensland Health.
Queensland recorded 20 new cases of COVID overnight, with one man testing positive after leaving hotel quarantine and moving into the St. Roma backpacker lodge.
“These backpackers, when we follow up with them, could have gone anywhere in the state,” said Queensland Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young earlier on Wednesday.
“This has been the 13th incursion of the virus into the community in Queensland over the last six weeks.
“So it is becoming increasingly concerning that we are having these repeated incursions of the virus into Queensland.”
The new list of exposure sites includes two backpacker hostels, the emergency department of a major Brisbane hospital, and the city’s domestic airport.
