Bone health needs change as men age

It turns out, sometimes, you really can have too much of a good thing.

Although the recommendations for eating healthy and exercise ring true across nearly all health-related platforms, as people age it is important to make sure they’re not pushing beyond what their body can handle.

Dr. Lex Allen, orthopedic surgeon at Intermountain Cedar City Hospital, said the biggest problems he sees related to men’s orthopedic health are overuse injuries.

“When men start getting past the age of 35, they still go to the gym and act like they’re 25,” Dr. Allen said. “They’re trying to do more than their body can do.”

It’s a tough pill to swallow, and Dr. Allen said he is right there with many of his patients when it comes to this problem.
