Partnership helps secure funding to improve sports facilities at local school


A partnership has helped secure funding to improve sports facilities at local school which will benefit pupils and the community.

Over recent months Bromsgrove Bears Basketball Club have been working in partnership with Colmers School and Sixth Form College to increase opportunities for young people to engage in basketball.

As part of this work. Colmers School have been seeking funding to upgrade the facilities of the main sports hall at the school.

The school have been successful and significant funding has now been approved from The Longbridge Infrastructure Tariff by Birmingham City Council.

As a result the following improvements will be made during the school holidays.

New flooring: A state of the art sprung sports hall flooring designed to reduce the impact upon joints and give correct grip to athletes, with new pitch markings for different sports and the partnership logo on the centre circle!

New Basketball Hoops, Nets, Backboards, Spring Release Hoops: A new set of these for the court will enable competitive matches for both junior and senior league basketball and will bring the facility completely up to date.

New Side Baskets Hoop. Nets & Hydraulics: This will enable under 9 & 11 competitive matches to be hosted and improve everyone’s shooting skills.

New Lighting: The new LED lamps are far more economic to run and will give out 3 times the amount of light currently in the sport hall.

A Basketball Management System: The Dr Dish shooting machine is state of the art in basketball equipment and will significantly improve everyone’s shooting skills.

New Strength & Conditioning Gym: Installed with brand new fitness equipment.

A spokesperson for Colmers School said: “This is a considerable investment into both the school and its pupils and community where we will ALL be able to benefit from the improvements.”

“The school will provide our family friendly club with a home from which we can continue to develop basketball, delivering at all levels. for all age groups and genders, for the foreseeable future.”
