CSIRO Health Director Dr Rob Grenfell told Weekend Today that NSW should be looking at Victoria’s harder lockdown measures to stop the more extensive spread of human-to-human contact.
The warning comes as New South Wales yesterday recorded 97 new local cases and Victoria recorded six new local cases.
“If you’re not achieving what you need to achieve with your restrictions, you need to actually put them harder,” Dr Grenfell said.
“I have been looking at the rates of infections and the way they have been appearing, and it’s mirroring, if not a little worse than the worst outbreak we had in Melbourne.”
“It’s very unlikely the next two weeks will see the end of this outbreak,”
“Medical professionals are saying you need to be tighter; you need to close down … current COVID lockdown needs to go harder.”
“The minute you release restrictions, the virus goes wild.”
