What you need to know about osteoporosis

While lifestyle is important, it’s not always enough. You might eat well and exercise regularly – but when was the last time you had a bone density scan?

Osteoporosis is a chronic condition that weakens bones over time, making them more likely to break, which can lead to a life-impacting loss of mobility. With two thirds of Australians over the age of 50 at risk, osteoporosis is more common than you think. It’s time to put your bone health front of mind.

Often referred to as ‘the silent disease’, osteoporosis can go undetected as symptoms are few and far between until a bone breaks. The good news, though, is that once diagnosed, you can work with your GP to manage the condition using a combination of medication, supplements and lifestyle changes.
